RICHIE PLAY and SOUNDCLOUD ETIQUETTE
Thus far, all of the music in my SHIT! category has been… well, shit. But today I induct a new song that is actually really good…
I give you DJ ARCADE – BOUNCE LITTLE KITTY (RICHIE PLAY RE-TOUCH)
Dj Arcade – Bounce Little Kitty (Richie Play Re-Touch)
This jam comes with a QUESTION: How much do you need to contribute to a song before you can start taking credit for it???
Here’s the deal. This entire track is basically the DJ ARCADE original. All that RICHIE PLAY has done to alter it, is to slap in a chunk from LARRY TEE’s LET’S MAKE NASTY (from which the “bounce little kitty” vocals original come) at 1:54. He hasn’t EQed or done any further production to that chunk. It is nothing more than a beat match (pardon me if I’m getting too technical for you). If you’d like to check for yourself, here’s the original ARCADE version, below.
Is Richie’s re-touching really enough of a contribution to the tune for him to post it up with his name in the title??? There are a bunch more “re-touches”, in a similar vein, up on his SOUNDCLOUD.
Personally, I don’t think it’s quite right, but perhaps I’m being too anal. To be honest, I did download Richie’s version AND have played it out (hypocrite!).
So, I’d love to know what YOU think. Does Richie Play’s re-touch belong in the SHIT! category for reasons of bad Soundcloud etiquette??? Please advise.
Until we come to a consensus, in SHIT! is where it will sit.
Shit.. Armokidd did this once with dubstep and i called him out on it… Not as bad as the guy who literally just posted our remix of RB on youtube under his name.. No edits whatsoever
So you’re a supporter for this one staying in the SHIT! category then???
Re-touchers have been around for a while now see our post http://werallright.blogspot.com/2010/10/blog-birth-celebration-with-free-remix.html#links
deal is do I wanna be one of them
hahaaa! Luke, I think you’re “retouching” is totally legit in this case. Cheers bro.
I’ve rearranged tracks to make them work better with things (making a break drop sooner, or skip an annoying breakdown, or whatever), but I just put (edit) after the track title, i HAVE included my name before (mannik edit) but i kind of feel stupid and usually just put (edit). But I definitely dont release them , i’m just talking about posting tracklists of the mixes I used them in
Also I guess I’m not sure because I’d never do an edit like this myself, I’d either do a lot more to remix the track OR if i was just dropping a sample in like this, i’d just DO it, as a DJ. (in which case if i were making a tracklist id just but both names in the list with an asterisk before the 2nd title).
Speaking more generally, I find these new terms just annoying. If it’s a remix just call it a remix, if it’s not, you probably shouldn’t be putting it out with your name on it in the first place.
Thanx for the thoughts, homie.
ok so i came across this post while doing a search…..I wasn’t even going to say anything…..BUT….In no way am i trying to take credit for this track, hence the term “edit” which means i had done some editing whether simple or not. If i was trying to take credit i guess i would have named it “Richie Play – Bounce Lil Kitty” But i have def given original credit to Dj Arcade…I have stopped doing “minor” cosmetics to tracks and have just started doing some bootlegs….Thank you for supporting and playing my stuff out. I appreciate all the support and feedback i get.
P.s. – Mannik, Im a fan 🙂
Thanx Richie. Just so you know, I’m taking this post out of the SHIT! category, after some people have made some very good arguments in your favour. Send some of those bootlegs my way!
[…] is the second time I’ve posted a Bootleg of a DJ Arcade tune. Check out the first post HERE. Is there something about his stuff that has high bootleg appeal? I can definately say that’s […]
