¥OIN & THE FUTURE OF JUKE

There is an exciting new musical movement permeating out of UK right now, as elements of GARAGE, FUTURE BASS, DUBSTEP, and JUKE all combine to create a fresh new sound. This vibe is so new that a name hasn’t been settled on yet. Some call it “FOOTWORK”; others spell it “FOOTWERK”; and the term, “FUTURE JUKE” has also been floating around. Whatever you want to call it, a young, Scottish producer, ¥OIN, is at the forefront of it.

¥OIN

I wrote about JUKE IN A PREVIOUS POST. Well Footwerk (I’m just gonna call it that for the sake of this post) is like Juke’s slightly more chilled, melodic, and emotional brother. In an interview for Norway based blog, SMUG, Yoin did such a superb job of describing his music, and these new emerging sounds. Here’s what he had to say…

“Most of my stuff is quite rhythmically based around big over compressed 808s and other classic drum machines but I also have a soft spot for the whole rave vibe, without going cheesy. I always try and keep a sense of sincerity to my music without going too dark.”

Now, here’s a great example of what he’s talking about, in the form of a tune titled MARTIAL STATUS. This one builds, morphs and changes right to the end, so be sure to do it justice with full play down.

Yoin is a really well spoken guy. He also had this to say, about music, in general…

“I don’t think any artist should just stick to what they feel comfortable with. For me music is something that is constantly changing and evolving therefore the artists themselves should be doing the same.”

Noice!
