THE AGGRESSION THAT YOU GET FROM NEW YORK HARDCORE

Generally, I’m not a fan of the kind of HARDCORE that amounts to nothing more than distorted drums and screaming samples, but on rare occasion, this type of raw power music really works. Here’s one of those instances.

DJ FREAK

DJ Freak

This English producer began experimenting with music in 1992, and became a pioneer of INDUSTRIAL HARDCORE, SPEEDCORE, and TERRORCORE. Now, with over 20 albums under his belt, DJ FREAK is regarded as one of the most accomplished taste makers in the world of ultra hard dance EDM.

Freak has a long-running affinity for New York City, which is where much of the music he helped create first found its footing. NEW YORK TERROR is a tribute to those early days of the NYC Hard Dance scene, with it’s unnamed MC shouting, “but you know you don’t get the aggression that you get from New York Hardcore”.  Admittedly, most of Freak’s compositions are just too abrasive, and lacking in melody for me, but this tune gets me PSYCHED, as several of his tunes have over the years, which is why I still keep myself up to date on what he’s releasing. Unlike most Terrorcore, this one works for me because it’s not too fast to mosh to, it’s not too distorted to make out the details of what’s happening, and the ultra aggressive structure fits the theme of the tune. It’s a blast of energy, and I can’t wait for the opportunity to drop this on some unsuspecting NYC hard headz, and watch them tear up the spot.
