ZOMBIES and DISCO are 2 of my favourite things, so my answer was already yes, when I was asked to perform at this event, to kick off HALLOWEEN SEASON 2013, in my home town. When I saw the lineup, my answer turned into a “hell yes”!
EVENT: ZOMBIE DISCO
DATE: Friday, October 4, 2013
LOCATION: MOJO Lounge, 1305 Dundas St. W, Toronto, Canada
Those who come dressed up will enjoy a discount on entry and even if you aren’t, you can enjoy the “zombie blood” drink special and rock out to your favourite band -or- rave harder to your favourite DJ!
HEADLINING, long side ya dead boi, Gobs, are 3 acts that bring a superb Halloween vibe, but all do it in a very different way.
SQUID LID is a spectacle of wondrous darkness. Their quirky electronic sound mashes elements of NEO-INDUSTRIAL, ELECTRO HOUSE, crunchy DUBSTEP, and Circus Soundtracks, while their unforgettable stage show features signature masks, costumes, lighting, projections, and aerial acrobatics, with an eerie cast of glowing creatures that change before your very eyes!
For a taste of Squid Lid’s “cinematic circus Breakbeats”, I give you a tune of theirs, titled FULCRUM CHEST. After you hear this, you’ll likely say something to the effect of “Ohhhh, cinematic circus Breakbeats. I get it now”. A very apt description, indeed.[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/102582542″ iframe=”true” /]
LUAU OR DIE
LUAU OR DIE is a SURF ROCK band with progressive influences. Playing together for over 6 years now, their sound is tight, polished and precise. They’re traditional side is catchy and appealing to a wide audience, whereas their progressive twists keep the music interesting for the discerning listener. They are, however, not, I repeat not, a group of international super-spies disguised as musicians on a clandestine mission of world domination. Luau Or Die. The choice is simple.
What, exactly, does “Surf Rock with progressive influences” sound like? I’ll let the band answer that question, in the form of a tune, called SURFIN’ ASSASSIN.
LAST OF THE MOHICANS
Entertaining a crowd has always been a major focal point for this Welsh powerhouse duo. After a chance meeting at an open deck night, the two forged an instant friendship that would result in the now World famous DJ/producer partnership who have rocked dance floors in America, Canada, Poland, Germany, Spain and their native Wales and the UK. The two treat each gig, no matter how small or large, with the same full on, bouncy, filthy, fast and uplifting attitude, always shaking up a room, consistently igniting it with a musical torch that sets atmospheres ablaze and leaves promoters and crowds alike fully content that Hardcore mayhem has been unleashed.
To experience their live show, you’ll have to come out to the event, but for a taste of their work, on the production side, I give you a collab with fellow UK Hardcore duo, D-LINQUANTS. The tune is called LIKE THIS, and it’s packed with ELECTRO influence, while still maintaining true Hardcore power. Very progressive. This is exactly what the scene needs more of.[soundcloud url=”http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/13969841″ iframe=”true” /]
