TOP 10 of 2013

It was such an amazing year for music, that I had quite a difficult time narrowing it all down to a TOP 10 LIST. After many hours of number crunching, and 2 full hours of BASS & ELECTRO podcasts, I’ve finally arrived at the 2013 edition of this annual DKGL tradition.

10. TOMMY CREEP – MORE ZOMBIE THAN ZOMBIE (VIP)

09. SYANIDE – EVIL DEAD

08. APSTER – XLFO

It’s a rare occasion for me to post an instrumental track. After Melody Joy picked this tune to be dropped during her DEAD AIR ELECTRO guest appearance, it was trapped on repeat, in my head. That fuzzy, glitchy theme is so catchy, it stands out completely on it’s own, without lyrical support. You’ll soon be humming along. I guarantee it!

07. POMDETER – CALL ME A HOLE

06. SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA & KNIFE PARTY x GREGORI KLOSMAN – ANTIDOTE (DISCO FRIES BOOTLEG)

05. DAVID HEARTBREAK & SIMON SAYZ – ACID YOUTHS

04. PETER LEE – BUZZ KILLINGTON

03. CODES – WORLD RULIN’

02. I LOVE IT (??? REMIX) – ICONA POP

It’s my favourite Electro track of the year, and I have no idea who it’s by. The remixer didn’t bother to credit themselves. I’ve done my best to unearth the name of the artist who transformed this summer’s teen angst anthem into a blisteringly brutal musical rampage, but to no avail. My greatest hope is that they learn of this ranking, and come out of hiding. Until that time, this track is exclusive to DKGL. In 2014, lets make more of an effort to properly label our mp3s. Agreed?

01. MELODY JOY – MADE TO LOVE

Melody Joy 4

This song isn’t at the top of my list because I’m her official tour DJ, or because she’s become a good friend of mine. No, MADE TO LOVE is my #1 track of the year because when I heard it I was blown away by Melody Joy’s talents, as a song writer and performer. She took an experimental, multi-tempo instrumental, and managed to give it a lyrical theme that remains cohesive throughout the different sections of the original. Not only does she perform the vocals with passion that you can feel, but with her words, she also transforms this unconventional song into one that is loaded with familiar POP appeal. Incredible! If Melody Joy isn’t on Top 40 radio by the end of 2014, it will only be because mainstream America is still not ready for her truly unique style. Thank you, MJ, for daring to be different. You have everything it takes to be a superstar. I can’t wait to hear and see what you’ve got planned for the new year.

What a wild ride the past year has been!
